We can use best as an adjective or as a noun.
If we use the adjective form, we might say this,
The best food is pizza!
If we were to use the noun form, we might say this, Pizza is the best!
You might be asking yourself why this discussion matters.
The reason is because the adjective form in particular can be difficult. I'll explain.
Best ends with two consonant sounds, s t.
When we use best as an adjective, we often use another consonant sound at the beginning of the next word.
So if we say, The best food is pizza, we have the consonant ending in best, st, followed
by another consonant in food, f.
We can improve our pronunciation of the word best by doing an activity called backwards build-up. It goes like this.
We start with the ending sound in a word and slowly add more sounds in reverse.
